Patient known allergies to medications, food, or environment are documented here and used by the prescriptions module to check against drug-allergies interactions.
Features of the Allergies screen:
No Allergies: If the patient has no known allergies, check the No Allergies box. Then, click the Lock button.
Current Drug Allergies: The Current Drug Allergies section displays all active medication-related allergies recorded for the patient. This section helps providers quickly review documented drug reactions, sensitivities, and allergy statuses before prescribing medications.
Current Other Allergies: The Current Other Allergies section displays active non-drug allergies recorded for the patient, such as food, environmental, or material allergies.
Search: Type the name of a medication or part of a name to search brand and generic medications knowledge base. Select the medication the patient is allergic to by clicking on it name from the drop-down.
Onset Date: Select the date that the patient had the reaction.
Intolerance: Indicates that the patient is intolerant to the selected allergen.
Reaction: Type a description of the patient’s reaction caused by the allergy or intolerance. This is a required field.
Remarks: Additional remarks can be typed in this field.
RXNorm: The RxNorm field is used to associate the allergy with a standardized medication reference for accurate drug identification and interoperability between healthcare systems.
Save/Update: After adding or editing a previously known allergy click this link.
Save/Close: It save and closes the window.
Cancel: If you have selected the wrong allergen and wish to reset, click this link.
Edit: This function is found under the Current Drug Allergies and Current Other Allergies tabs. Click the Edit link to edit the allergy. Edit the information and then click Save/Update to save the new information.
De-activate an Allergy: To de-activate an allergy, first Select the X icon next to the allergy, a pop-message will appear saying “Deactivate this record”. Click Ok and then another screen will appear, here enter the reason for de-activation in the De-Activation Remarks field (it is optional). Then click De-Activate link and the allergy will be deactivated. The allergy will then appear under as In-Active in Allergy History Tab
